Pat Gelsinger: Intel’s Technology Shepherd
Autor admin | 16.08.2008 | Category SEO

Pat Gelsinger is one of the most important tech executives at the world’s biggest chip company and may even head it some day. How he came to be in this position is a story of determination, faith and one very smart mind. In 1979, Intel recruiter Ron Smith was on his 12th interview of the day when a 17-year-old from Pennsylvania Dutch farm country named Patrick Gelsinger took a seat for his turn at getting a job with this still-unknown California firm. Smith’s note on the teenager was pretty straightforward: “Smart, arrogant, aggressive — he’ll fit right in.” Gelsinger had flown across the country for the interview, even though he had promised his mother he wouldn’t take a job on the west coast. FCC Weighs Next Steps on Free U.S. Broadband
Autor admin | 16.08.2008 | Category SEO

A controversial Federal Communications Commission proposal to build a smut-free wireless broadband network that would provide no-cost Internet access to nearly all Americans is inching forward. But the auction that would get the process in motion isn’t likely to happen until well into next year, according to the FCC. Under the plan, the winning bidder would be required to provide free broadband service to 50 percent of the country within four years, and 95 percent of the country within 10 years. The license would also require the network provider to install a filter to keep out pornography and other inappropriate content. AOL Confirms SocialThing Acquisition
While not yet complete, AOL has confirmed that they will acquire SocialThing. The FriendFeed competitor is still in private beta.
No word on the price for the acquisition, but expect it to be small. Still, AOL seems to be going after the social media world, having recently acquired social network Bebo for $850 million.
Bebo has 40 million users, doubling AOL’s media reach via the acquisition.
The push towards social media is likely part of a larger re-focus of AOL’s business model around advertising.

Will Android Handset Be T-Mobile’s Killer Device?
Autor admin | 16.08.2008 | Category SEO

Will Google’s Android smartphone be T-Mobile’s “Phone” and help the struggling wireless carrier regain much-needed market share and subscriber traction? No one can know that answer or answers to other questions about the open source device’s features, until Google’s first handset arrives at year’s end. But one industry analyst said the HTC handset has the potential to make it happen. “This is great news for T-Mobile, which has been struggling to find its answer to the iPhone and the [Sprint] Instinct phone,” Jeff Kagan, telecom analyst, told InternetNews.com. “We are expecting this new device to do many of the same things,” he said.
