Ex-Googler Ben Ling Becomes an Ex-Facebooker
If you’re looking for drama, go watch the Olympics or an episode of the Hills. Ex-Googler Ben Ling is leaving Facebook, but it’s not for any rumored internal squabbles.
Instead, he’s got a new opportunity on deck that is apparently great enough to leave the hottest social network in the world right now.
I don’t know what opportunity is out there for a guy with Google and Facebook experience, but it had better be a doozy.

Nortel, which for more than a year had been licensing Pingtel’s open source technology for its own products, said the purchase would give it greater UC software capabilities as well as improve future product development.

Study Gives States Poor Marks on Cyber Crime
Autor admin | 13.08.2008 | Category SEO

As cyber crime and e-commerce continue to boom, most states are failing to keep up with the increasingly sophisticated threats, according to a new study. Consumers could lose confidence in online shopping if attorneys general don’t get more aggressive about prosecuting Internet fraud, the report stated. In 2007, the Federal Trade Commission had 221,226 complaints of Internet fraud, nearly 16,000 more than it received the previous year. The report warns that those figures might understate the problem, given that consumers many times do not know that they have been targeted. Lin Miaoke. Source: Reuters BEIJING — Bloggers were fuming on Wednesday over China’s decision at the Olympic opening ceremony to have a pretty little girl lip-synching for the real singer who had crooked teeth. Many said they felt cheated because one of the most touching moments of the critically acclaimed ceremony was not the real deal. “Frankly, I think that’s disgusting. Honestly, they’re 7 and 9 years old! So young!” one New York teenage girl wrote angrily in her blog. Lin Miaoke, 9 years old, was praised for her cute performance, but organizers admitted on Wednesday that she was a photogenic stand-in for the real singer, Yang Peiyi, who was rejected because of her appearance. Carrier Claims Alltel-Verizon Anticompetitive
Autor admin | 13.08.2008 | Category SEO

Rural wireless carrier Leap Wireless (NASDAQ: LEAP) is petitioning the Federal Communications Commission to deny Verizon Wireless’ proposed acquisition of Alltel, claiming it would negatively impact its subscribers and give Verizon Wireless a “massive” amount of spectrum. The San Diego-based carrier filed two petitions on Monday, the deadline for comment on the proposal and said the $28.1 billion purchase would prove anticompetitive for the market. The carrier wants the FCC to revise its existing Roaming Order by eliminating the home roaming/in-market exclusion and including data services. It also wants the agency to initiate a rule-making proceeding on spectrum caps. (Read the full post about ‘Carrier Claims Alltel-Verizon Anticompetitive’…)

January’s JPMorgan estimate that placed global search advertising spending in excess of $30 billion for this year (growing to $60 billion by 2011) got more than a few people thinking about what percentage of search advertising dollars are being spent effectively.
Search Engine Strategies has been a haven for big announcements in the search category for as long as I can remember. Next week, we head off to San Jose for the 10th SES event there, and many announcements will accompany the week’s festivities.
Among them, a study from WebTrends which estimates that billions of advertising dollars are being left on the table by advertisers who need more than a little help managing their paid search advertising programs.

One of the great thing about the Web is its complexity. There are so many different things going on that it simply isn’t possible to keep track of it all. One thing this creates is an opportunity to find a vertical niche for yourself, no matter how crowded the space may seem. Even with that introduction, it’s hard to imagine that a new analytics player could find a good niche for itself. Yet this is exactly what Texas-based Woopra has done. I recently had the chance to speak to the company’s CEO, John Pozadzides, about their product. If you’re looking for a souped-up real-time analytics package, look no further. You won’t find the most powerful core Web analytics toolset in Woopra, but you’ll find a lot of innovative and interesting real-time features.
