The Future of VMware
Much has been made of the recent CEO change at VMware, but what does it really tell us about the future of the company? Yes, the consensus is that former CEO Diane Greene clashed with the leadership of EMC (NYSE: EMC). Yes, new CEO Paul Maritz has a solid leadership pedigree and an insider’s knowledge of the workings of Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT). Yes, 2008 is a year of ramped-up competition in the virtualization space. But what does all of that mean when it comes to the direction of VMware? “VMware’s (NYSE: VMW) portfolio is exclusively virtualization, with no divestiture, and the hypervisor is being commoditized,” said Richard Jones, vice president and service director, datacenter strategies, Burton Group. Chip Stocks Overshadowed by Credit Woes

Autor admin | 12.08.2008 | Category SEO

Good news from Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) and AMD (NYSE: AMD) couldn’t overcome another drubbing in the financial sector on Tuesday.

Intel edged higher after saying its quarter remains on track, and AMD gained 2 percent after releasing a new graphics card.

The news helped the chip sector (PHI: SOX) finish with its seventh straight gain, but the rest of the market got slammed by concerns about the health of JP Morgan (NYSE: JPM), Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) and UBS (NYSE: UBS).

Chip investors will try again on Wednesday, as nVidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) and Applied Materials (NASDAQ: AMAT) both gained after the close despite posting mixed quarterly results.

Inflation, Credit Crunch Hit e-Commerce
E-commerce spending has grown at a brisk pace for the last several years, outpacing offline retail growth by leaps and bounds. That pattern is still holding, but the tough times are beginning to catch up with online retailers, according to several analysts tracking the e-commerce economy. A quick glance at the numbers from comScore (NASDAQ: SCOR) confirms the trend. From 2002 through 2007, e-commerce spending on nontravel items had posted annual increases between 21 percent and 26 percent. Spending so far in 2008 is up just 12 percent. “We’re facing some realities here that are very problematic,” said comScore Chairman Gian Fulgoni in a presentation last week on the e-commerce economy. It’s time we review the advantages of content, and where it may be applicable. Let’s look at a few sites that will either need heavy amounts of content or little to no content.

These sites need content:

  • Affiliate sites, which typically add little to no value by simply copying from others.
