Looking for Answers in a Search Marketing Forum? Be Specific!
Autor admin | 30.08.2008 | Category SEO
As the editor of Search Engine Watch forums, I see a lot of one-sentence requests for help on how to learn various aspects of search marketing. The specific ones show a little knowledge on the part of the questioner and are much easier to answer.
The other day, one poster asked for guidance learning AdWords. Before I got there, our AdWords Rep jumped in and gave a very insightful answer — that the question was too broad because Google’s Help Center has more than 3,000 pages dedicated to the answer.
This reminded me why I left psychology before completing my Master’s or Ph.D. The more I advanced in the subject, the more funneled my perspective became.

Comcast’s Answer to Downloaders: Monthly Limits
Autor admin | 30.08.2008 | Category SEO
BitTorrent downloaders who thought they had scored a victory when the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ordered Comcast to stop interfering with BitTorrent traffic aren’t necessarily in the clear: The nation’s largest cable ISP is moving ahead with plans to impose download limits.
As part of a punishment from the FCC, Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA) was ordered to disclose its data management policies and disclose a new traffic management policy.
Well, Comcast users got one.
Beginning Oct. 1, Comcast subscribers will be subject to a monthly limit of 250 gigabytes (GB) for all downloads. The number will be in aggregate, meaning everything from e-mail to Web traffic to downloads to streaming music are thrown into the pile.

Big Green Takes Center Court at U.S. Open
Autor admin | 30.08.2008 | Category SEO

NEW YORK — This week marked the commencement of the U.S. Open, and those here in the New York area not exhausted by Olympimania have two weeks of top-notch tennis to look forward to. Yes, we’re already seeing great things from perennial heroes like four-time U.S. Open champion Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal, fresh off ascending to No. 1 in the world and taking Olympic gold in Beijing for Men’s Singles. And, naturally, we’ll be staying tuned to see whether Venus and Serena Williams will face off in the quarter finals, as seems likely — and, of course, which of the two sibling powerhouses (themselves also recently minted gold-medal winners in the Olympics) will emerge victorious from the duel. Apple to Fix iPhone Security Loophole
Autor admin | 29.08.2008 | Category SEO
Apple is promising to fix a loophole in the iPhone that would allow anyone to access the user’s personal information, such as contacts, even if the phone is password protected.
The hole was first disclosed on MacRumors.com and then Gizmodo.com shortly thereafter, before the bulk of the media picked up on it. The iPhone can be password protected, but the two sites found that simply by quickly pressing the iPhone home button twice, which is the only button on the front of the device. That defaults to the user’s favorites, thus exposing the contents to anyone, regardless of the password.

Comcast Pushes Ahead on Broadband Throttling
Autor admin | 29.08.2008 | Category SEO

Comcast, the largest U.S. cable operator, said on Thursday it would cap customers’ Internet usage starting Oct. 1, to ensure the best service for the vast majority of its subscribers. The company said it was setting a monthly data usage threshold of 250 gigabytes (GB) per account for all residential high-speed Internet customers, or the equivalent of 50 million e-mails or 124 standard-definition movies. “If a customer exceeds more than 250GB and is one of the heaviest data users who consume the most data on our high-speed Internet service, he or she may receive a call from Comcast’s Customer Security Assurance group to notify them of excessive use,” according to the company’s updated Frequently Asked Questions on Excessive Use. Macs in the Enterprise: A Question of Emphasis
Autor admin | 29.08.2008 | Category SEO
A few weeks back in OS Roundup I wrote a piece about Apple, which generated a fair level of response, so I thought it would be sensible to take another look at it.
As well as pointing out that I share a name (albeit spelled differently) with the TV and film character Pee-wee Herman, many readers wrote in to say that they have implemented OS X servers and clients in their enterprise environments and that they are very satisfied with their performance and reliability. Some added that with so few security issues they were able to get by with far fewer administrators than would have been possible in a Windows environment.
