Confirming recent rumors of another coming reorganization, Yahoo today announced its plans to centralize many of its product and engineering teams into one regional group in the U.S., rather than maintaining separate divisions for each set of products.
Yahoo is creating three new teams that will report to President Sue Decker:
- An Audience Products Division will assume responsibility for companywide product strategy and product management. It will be led by Ash Patel who previously managed the company’s Platforms & Infrastructure group.

NebuAd: The Third Rail for ISPs?

Facing objections from lawmakers and privacy advocates, Charter Communications, the nation’s fourth-largest cable company, has set aside its plan to test-drive a controversial ad deal with behavioral targeting firm NebuAd. So what was all the fuss about?

For some, that idea sounds a little too creepy for comfort.
NebuAd supplies ISPs with a hardware appliance that enables them to mine packets of information traveling across their networks.

Recent advances in facial recognition promise to soon give popular dating sites more features for would-be daters to play with.
Eyealike, which already offers facial recognition systems for enterprises customers, said it’s in negotiations with major online dating and social network sites to incorporate its technology for consumers.
The idea is that users will be able to upload an image, or even choose from a selection of celebrity faces, and click onscreen levers to adjust that image to their personal tastes.
“For example, you might be looking for someone like Jennifer Aniston, but with lighter hair or darker skin tone,” Greg Heuss, president of Eyealike, told InternetNews.com.

Virgin Mobile is the latest wireless carrier to offer up a lower-priced unlimited talk-rate plan.
The $79.99 monthly flat-rate plan, announced yesterday and called “Totally Unlimited,” is a competitive response by the pay-as-you-go provider to unlimited rate plans launched earlier this year by market leaders.
One industry watcher said the new plan could spur carriers to further reduce the cost of plans given the competition in mobile services.
“This is definitely a tit for tat move as it will make other carriers look at their rate plans again,” Carmi Levy, senior VP, strategic consulting, AR Communications, told InternetNews.com.

Source: Reuters Research In Motion’s (NASDAQ: RIMM) BlackBerry continues to see booming traction in the enterprise, with the smartphone maker reporting that it added 2.3 million new accounts during the quarter. But despite those numbers — and a jump in both revenue and profit from the same quarter last year — Wall Street soured on the stock after the company missed earnings estimates by a penny and gave disappointing guidance for next quarter. RIM said income totaled $482.5 million, or 84 cents a share, in its first fiscal quarter ended May 31 — a performance in-line with company guidance. A year earlier, profit topped $223.2 million, or 39 cents a share. (Read the full post about ‘RIM Stung on Outlook Despite Growing Profit’…)
