Autor admin | 24.06.2008 | Category SEO

Without a doubt virtualization is a hot topic in IT, though often it’s thought of just in the server consolidation context. Networking giant Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: CSCO) is now expanding its virtualization efforts to encompass the entire datacenter environment with a trio of updated releases.

Cisco Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) software release 4.1, Cisco Application Control Engine (ACE) software release 3.1 and Cisco VFrame Datacenter software release 1.2 have all been updated to support a virtual end-to-end datacenter environment.

The end-to-end virtualization effort expands Cisco’s existing network virtualization efforts to mesh with server consolidation efforts already under way in the datacenter with vendors such as VMware (NYSE: VMW).

Nokia to Take Over Symbian, Make OS Royalty-Free

Autor admin | 24.06.2008 | Category SEO

HELSINKI — Nokia will pay $410 million to buy out UK-based mobile phone OS maker Symbian and plans to make its software available, royalty-free, to boost phone sales and respond to new rivals such as Google.

Symbian’s software is used in two-thirds of smartphones — handsets with computer-like capabilities — and 6 percent of all mobile phones, but new platforms such as Google’s Android and Apple’s recently updated iPhone could challenge its dominance.

“The move’s a shrewd response to growing threats from other providers of mobile phone software,” said Geoff Blaber of UK-based research firm CCS Insight, citing the open-source LiMo Foundation as well as Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) and Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL).

Vendor Plugs Mobile Device Security

Autor admin | 24.06.2008 | Category SEO

Security software maker Mocana has announced an antivirus solution for Internet-connected devices that promises to secure pervasive computing environments.

But instead layering the security on top of an OS, or embedding it in another application, the technology is built into devices during the manufacturing cycle.

The NanoDefender application promises to protect any non-PC, Internet-connected device including smartphones and PDAs, as well as routers, printers, modems and even network gateways.

“This [software approach] avoids patch management and provides security to the pervasive computing environment as today’s antivirus signature-based solutions aren’t a good fit for protecting these devices,” CEO Adrian Turner told InternetNews.com.
