FCC Seeks Comment on Free Internet Plan
Autor admin | 23.06.2008 | Category SEO

Source: Reuters The Federal Communications Commission is seeking feedback on a plan to provide free Internet access throughout the country with a new spectrum auction, the agency said Friday. Under the proposed rules, the winning bidder for the new spectrum would have to filter out pornography and other inappropriate content. It would also carry an open-access requirement, so that all devices and software applications could run on the network. Those provisions and the free-service requirement leave unclear who would actually bid on the proposed auction. The requirements could also spark opposition from incumbent wireless carriers, who have previously raised objections to open-access provisions. HP Open Sources Unix File System for Linux
Autor admin | 23.06.2008 | Category SEO
HP is opening up its Tru64 Advanced File System (AdvFS) to the open source Linux community in a bid to help further Linux file system innovation.
The AdvFS file system, which has its roots in Digital Equipment Corporation’s Digital Unix, is used in mission-critical deployments by HP customers. But HP, which gained AdvFS through a series of acquisitions, has its own flavor of Unix, HP-UX, with its own file system.
HP’s move to offer AdvFS to the open source community comes as Linux continues moving upstream into deeper mission-critical deployments — where users often expect certain types of Unix functionality that has yet to become available in mainstream Linux file systems.

Google Trends for Websites Adds to Comparison Sites Confusion
If you want to see how your site is doing compared to the competition, then the new Google Trends for Websites is yet another option to conduct your research. Following the lead of sites like Compete.com and Alexa, Google Trends for Websites allows you to see a graph of traffic to the sites you designate.
But Google Trends for Websites is only adding to the confusion caused by Compete and Alexa. I used all three to compare SearchEngineWatch.com, SearchEngineLand.com, and SEOmoz.org, three of the leading search blogs. I got three very different graphs. Check out these screenshots.
With all three, there are definite seasonal dips.

Last week I stepped you through the creation of your first mobile content advertising campaign. This week I’ll describe best practices for designing mobile banner ads that’ll help you maximize response and conversion rates. A mobile banner ad needs to work really hard despite its diminutive size. (Read the full post about ‘Hot, Tiny Ads: Banner Ads for Mobile Screens’…)

So Far, Twitter Falters On The Political Front
This weekend, the Personal Democracy Forum hosted a Twitter-only political experiment. The participants gave it the old college try, including a Time magazine blogger and Obama and McCain representatives. At least so far, Twitter falters on the political front.
My main complaint is that it’s too hard to follow the topics among the participants. Also there’s no simple way to browse all their tweets together, beyond the most recent 20 messages.

Is Vista Still a Flop With IT?
Autor admin | 23.06.2008 | Category SEO
To paraphrase Mark Twain, reports of Windows Vista’s demise have been exaggerated.
Somewhat, at any rate.
Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. recently released a report that indicated Vista still isn’t ringing many bells with major IT shops.
“A year of overwhelmingly bad publicity, coupled with opportunities for continued XP ‘downgrades’ or potentially skipping over Vista for Windows 7, look to have meaningfully eroded support for Vista and are likely to impair the product’s overall adoption,” the Seattle Post-Intelligencer quoted the report as stating.
