Writing for the Web - and Getting it Read
Autor admin | 20.06.2008 | Category SEO
SAN FRANCISCO - Writers beware, no matter how good you think you are, chances are Web surfers don’t have time to pour over your precious prose. Surfers scour the Web or leverage search engines to find the information they want and if your site doesn’t deliver the goods quickly, they’ll probably just click elsewhere.
“Most bad writing happens when we try to demonstrate how smart we are,” said Chris Nodder, User Experience Specialist at Nielsen Norman Group. “You might think, ‘if you can’t keep up with me, you must be stupid’. But if you suppress your ego, and think ‘What can I, the writer, do for you, the audience’, you’re 90 percent of the way” to producing effective content.

Google News Testing Updates
Google News has announced that they will be testing updates in the coming weeks. Only a few users will see the “experiments,” which will be based on research and feedback. Expect any changes to be related to the design of the site and the “evolving state of online journalism.”
Back in 2006, Google explained its testing process. “To learn more, we sometimes randomly select a group of people to see a possible improvement to search options. Or we may select a group of people and try out a new element while they’re searching.

Yahoo Re-Organizes, Execs Drop Like Flies

Yahoo Re-Organizes, Execs Drop Like Flies
Carl Icahn may not have to worry about the Yahoo! severance plan as much as he originally thought. Yahoo is reorganizing and execs are bailing left and right, and they’re not even waiting for a proxy board takeover to make their moves.
Earlier this week came the news that Jeff Weiner was leaving the search company. Now, Qi Lu, Yahoo’s Executive Vice President of Search and Advertising Technology is headed out the door. So is Vish Makhijani, Senior Vice President of Search, is also exiting.
Brad Garlinghouse, author of the (in)famous Peanut Butter Manifesto, is “considering alternatives” but is widely expected to bolt as well.
Lu, Makhijani, and Garlinghouse were all moved to the newly created Global Products group, to be headed by Ash Patel, the current Exec.

Who’s Ahead in the 4G Race?
Autor admin | 20.06.2008 | Category SEO
The allure of betting on a longshot in a tight race — and seeing it play out — never wanes for sports fans.
In the race to 4G that’s heating up between two competing wireless networking standards, it would be foolish to dismiss the Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard as the longshot against its better-known rival, WiMAX.
While WiMAX (define), or Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, is seen by industry experts as a few strides ahead of LTE, the LTE standard could across cross the finish line as the end-all mobile network that users are eagerly awaiting.
WiMAX and LTE (define) are, in simple terms, Wi-Fi and GSM connectivity on steroids.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer Microsoft’s (NASDAQ: MSFT) CEO said the company will not seek to make a spate of other Internet acquisitions in the wake of its failed bid for Yahoo (NASDAQ: YHOO), the Financial Times reported on Friday. Speculation has emerged that Microsoft could try to buy Facebook, in which it already owns a small stake, the AOL division of Time Warner (NYSE: TWX) and several smaller concerns, the newspaper reported in its online edition. “People don’t understand what they’re talking about,” Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said in an interview with the Financial Times.

Executives to Lead Exodus From Yahoo?
Autor admin | 20.06.2008 | Category SEO

Source: Reuters A number of senior Yahoo (NASDAQ: YHOO) executives are leaving the Web company as it looks to improve earnings and convince investors it is worth at least as much as a bid it rejected from Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), reports said on Thursday. Yahoo President Sue Decker is also considering a reorganization that would centralize Yahoo mail, search and home page divisions into a global product organization, The Wall Street Journal reported, quoting people familiar with the matter. Yahoo declined to comment on the reports, and it was not clear whether the reported reorganization was in response to the executive moves or the other way around. Juniper Ramping up to Take on Cisco
Autor admin | 20.06.2008 | Category SEO
LAS VEGAS. In this town where gambling is a way a life, there comes a point where you lay your cards on the table to show your opponents what you’ve got. That’s what Juniper Networks did at the NXTcomm trade show with its top service provider executives detailing to press and analysts their strategy to win the carrier networking game.
Table stakes in this game though aren’t for the feint of heart. According to Infonetics Research, in 2007 service provider router and switch sales hit an all time high of $11.2 billion. In 2007 Cisco was number one with Juniper (NASDAQ: JNPR) coming in at number two.

Firewall Vendors Look to Automate Policy Changes
Autor admin | 20.06.2008 | Category SEO
For IT staff in global enterprises, adding a new employee is far more involved than finding a desk and a chair for the new hire.
Typically, it means huddling over spreadsheets, muttering to themselves as they figure out what changes to make to access rights and policies while taking into account a labyrinthine array of legal, departmental and compliance rules.
Multiply that scene by thousands of users, spread over different countries, and you have the massive, frequently chaotic process that takes place practically every week in major companies.
In response, firewall vendors are looking to help IT fight back using policy management automation solutions, designed to simplify the task of managing policies — and minimizing the risk of human error.

Tech Stocks to the Rescue
Autor admin | 20.06.2008 | Category SEO
After weeks of being led lower by financial stocks, tech stocks finally regained the high ground on Thursday and even helped blue chip stocks eke out a small gain.
Research in Motion (NASDAQ: RIMM) led the way, rising 2% to a new all-time high of $147.55 ahead of its earnings report next week.
Citigroup’s (NYSE: C) admission that it will incur more losses weighed on financial stocks for much of the day, but BB&T’s (NYSE: BBT) announcement that it will maintain its dividend helped the sector recover in the afternoon, and falling oil prices helped ease inflation fears for a day.
Broadcom (NASDAQ: BRCM) jumped 7.6% on positive comments from Lehman Brothers, and Silicon Labs (NASDAQ: SLAB), LSI (NYSE: LSI) and Marvell (NASDAQ: MRVL) were other big gainers in a strong chip sector.
XM Satellite Radio (NASDAQ: XMSR) and Sirius (NASDAQ: SIRI) plunged after Goldman Sachs said the two will face growing competition from MP3 players and other devices.
Motorola (NYSE: MOT) led a weak wireless sector lower with a 6% decline.
