Link Building for Dumb Asses

Autor admin | 23.05.2008 | Category SEO

Want links? Be a dumb ass.

There are many ways of acquiring links. One surefire way of ensuring hordes of people link to you is by being a dumb ass.

I searched deep within my lexicon of vocabulary prowess to not offend your eyes with such a crass descriptor. I assure you, dear reader, there’s no better way of describing what I’m about to lay before you other than…dumb ass.

Across all forms of media there’s rarely a better attention getter than dumb ass-ness. Before we go any further I feel it important to define exactly what I’m talking about here.

In order for this scheme to work you must be both dumb and an ass. If you’re merely dumb, you have the potential of gaining popularity.

DMA Finds False Hope in New York Tax Law?

Autor admin | 23.05.2008 | Category SEO

Speaking yesterday on a conference call with online retailers and affiliate marketers, an attorney for the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) sought to reassure them that a controversial new tax law in New York takes a much narrower scope than previous regulations, but other legal experts are not so sure.

The law, enacted with the state’s budget last month, said that online retailers who solicit sales from affiliates located in New York will be responsible for collecting sales tax on purchases shipped there, even if they have no employees or physical operations within the state. In a typical affiliate program, a site owner places a link to a retailer’s site, and receives a commission based on the sales generated from the referrals.

Yahoo Nominates Current Board but Postpones Shareholder Meeting

Yahoo has nominated 9 of the 10 current board members for re-election this July. But the shareholders meeting has been postponed. Originally scheduled for July 3, the meeting is now expected to occur in late July.

Who the delay ultimately ends up helping remains to be seen. On the one hand, the delay could help Carl Icahn in his proxy board fight. Or the time could help the current board negotiate a deal with Microsoft or an ad deal with Google.

In order for that to happen, Jerry Yang will need to cooperate. Kara Swisher is reporting that Yang is no longer going it alone in negotiations.

SEW Experts: Do We Need Educational Standards For Learning SEO?

The real meat and potatoes of the discussion right now isn’t necessarily what standards to employ, but whether we need — or should even consider — SEO standards. Critics Blast Microsoft Despite ODF Support Pledge

Autor admin | 23.05.2008 | Category SEO

You’d think that Microsoft’s critics would be pleased that the company plans to add native support for the competing OpenDocument Format (ODF) to Office 2007 within a year.

Instead, many went on the attack.

The software titan said Wednesday that Office 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2) will let users select ODF 1.1 as the default format for saving and retrieving files in Office.

ODF is the major competition for the Microsoft-originated Office Open XML (OOXML) document interchange format. The company plans to ship Office 2007 SP2 in the first half of 2009.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - Microsoft opened part of its Silicon Valley research operation to share a bit of the technologies and explorations its making in search of the next big hit. Rick Rashid, who’s been in charge of Microsoft Research since it was founded in 1991, said research is the key to the company’s success in good times and bad.

EMC Kicks NetApp’s NAS

Autor admin | 23.05.2008 | Category SEO

With EMC World winding down today in Las Vegas, it’s interesting to note that despite its ever-broadening product portfolio, EMC (NYSE: EMC) still enjoys a good fight with its closest rival in the NAS space.

NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) pioneered the network-attached storage (NAS) field, challenging EMC’s supremacy in the storage market with a message of simplified access to large amounts of storage without the need for esoteric storage knowledge.

EMC responded pretty quickly with its own line of NAS products, and since then a grand battle has unfolded.

NetApp, in turn, moved into the SAN space and the two have fought hard ever since, although EMC has steadily gained ground in the NAS space.
