Icahn to Start Yahoo Proxy Effort?
Autor admin | 14.05.2008 | Category SEO
Billionaire investor Carl Icahn is considering mounting a proxy campaign to replace Yahoo (NASDAQ: YHOO) board members after the company failed to reach a deal to merge with Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), a source close to the matter said on Tuesday.
The veteran investor has built up a stake in Yahoo in the last week and would run a slate to force the company back to the negotiating table with Microsoft, the source said, asking for anonymity because the decision to go ahead with the move has not yet been made.
It is unlikely that Icahn, a veteran of numerous proxy battles, will join with other hedge funds in the campaign, the source said.

Seagate Disk Gets NSA’s Security Seal of Approval

The National Security Agency (NSA) has qualified Seagate Technology’s (NYSE:STX) Momentus 5400 FDE.2 hard drive for use in laptops and other computing devices deployed by federal agencies and contractors.
The NSA is the cryptologic intelligence arm of the U.S. government.
With the qualification, Seagate becomes the first hard drive maker to have received the agency’s nod of approval, which signifies that the drive meets national security standards for securing sensitive information.
“The qualification bears undeniable witness to the tremendous strength of the Seagate Secure portfolio of self-encrypting disk drives in protecting sensitive information for government, private enterprises and consumers alike,” Tom Major, vice president of Seagate’s personal storage business unit said in a statement.

Autor admin | 14.05.2008 | Category SEO
Verizon Wireless said on Wednesday it joined a consortium working on a Linux-based mobile operating system expected to rival a mobile system being developed by a group headed by Google (NASDAQ: GOOG).
The announcement that the No. 2 U.S. mobile service joined the LiMo Foundation follows signals last month that AT&T (NYSE: T) would support Android, the Linux operating system being developed by Google and about 30 partners.
Verizon Wireless, a venture of Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ) and Vodafone Group (NYSE: VOD), said it would take a seat on the foundation’s board and expects to sell its first phones based on the LiMo operating system in 2009.

Google’s Superiority Complex
Autor admin | 14.05.2008 | Category SEO
Is it Google or Yahoo or Microsoft that leads the pack in search advertising platforms? What makes a good search advertising platform? Ease of use? Time to market? Does anyone care about volume?
Somewhere in the Microhoo/Yahoocrosoft discussions, mainstream press began reporting that “Google’s superior advertising platform” dominates Yahoo. This started to happen right around the time Yahoo snubbed Microsoft with a Google ad platform test.
Speculation continues as to whether Yahoo will actually continue with its own platform (although sources close to the project at Yahoo say giving up isn’t an option) while the advertising world wonders why the press keeps calling Google’s system superior.
Advertisers Can’t Sell Hard Liquor But Google Can
Autor admin | 14.05.2008 | Category SEO

Advertisers Can’t Sell Hard Liquor But Google Can Google Adwords has a strict no advertising rule for hard liquor as they call it. You will not find ads for terms like rum, gin or vodka. Well…. vodka searches now add a twist. Google has started to promote their vodka sellers with the top entry. Before you get to the search results is a Google CheckOut promoting various vodka sellers. Now that does seem like they are contradicting their own rules. One hopes this was an oversight, since there are none for rum or gin as yet. Maybe vodka is just such a good checkout seller that it has reached some number where it automatically gets the CheckOut promo. Hopefully someone at Google will publicly address this one. Emotional Motivators in Landing Page Optimization
Autor admin | 14.05.2008 | Category SEO
People don’t often make rational decisions. In fact, the capacity for abstract rational thought is only a recent evolutionary addition to our brains. We’ve mainly gotten by on our emotions and gut feelings. We may think we’re approaching something rationally, but most of the time we use after-the-fact rationalization to justify our intuitive and emotional decision making.
It’s a well-known maxim in marketing that people who are comfortable enough with their current situation aren’t good prospects for buying goods, services, or ideas — they simply don’t care enough to make a change.
All of the specific strategies and tactics that you’ll apply to landing page optimization are aimed at influencing basic human emotions and moving your visitors off their comfortable spot.
