Autor admin | 07.05.2008 | Category SEO

A Web security firm said on Tuesday it had tipped off international banks and police after finding a huge trove of stolen business and personal data amassed on a server in the space of just three weeks.

Finjan Inc said it had notified the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, police in various countries and more than 40 financial institutions in the United States, Europe and India about the discovery of the so-called “crimeserver”.

“This server was running for about three weeks and within this period it managed to collect 1.4 gigabytes of data. It is indeed the largest treasure we’ve found in this very short time,” Yuval Ben-Itzhak, chief technology officer of the California-based firm, said in a phone interview from Israel.

Red Hat Heads For The JON 2.0

Autor admin | 07.05.2008 | Category SEO

How do you manage an open source middleware stack?

If you’re open source vendor Red Hat, the solution is straightforward. You develop an open source management product. That’s what Red Hat is doing with its JBoss Operations Network (JON) 2.0 product, which is officially out today. The only issue is that JON isn’t itself fully available under an open source license, at least not yet.

Red Hat’s middleware management entry comes as the open source vendor ramps up its JBoss division in a bid for a bigger slice of the multi-billion dollar middleware market. JON 2.0 also in a small way elevates Red Hat into the management realm where HP’s OpenView and IBM Tivoli dominate.

Borland Finally Sells CodeGear

Autor admin | 07.05.2008 | Category SEO

Software development vendor Borland has rid itself of its CodeGear developer tools division in a sale to Embarcadero Technologies for $23 million.

The deal ends over a year and a half of searching for buyers for the division. The deal is expected to close by June 30.

The sale frees Borland to focus on the application lifecycle management (ALM) market, which aims to improve the efficiency with which software is developed, tested and deployed. Borland spun out the CodeGear division in November of 2006 after failing to find a buyer for Borland’s developer tools products.

CodeGear’s developer tools include the Delphi product lines for Win32 and PHP, as well as the JBuilder Java IDE and the 3rd Rail Ruby on Rails IDE .

Nothing’s tougher than facing Wall St. analysts when the economy’s sliding into a recession. Tom Evans, CEO of Bankrate, Inc., faced one of the toughest quarters in the company’s history in Q3 2007. During the earnings call, he explained how and why Bankrate survived the early days of the subprime crisis.

Tom Evans, President and Chief Executive Officer, Bankrate, Inc.

I am quite sure that the last quarter was without a doubt the most difficult quarter for our advertisers that they have seen in a long time. There is obviously a lot of noise about the softness in the housing and mortgage industry, negative news about subprime loans, and concerns about bank liquidity.

Explaining Digg to Clients and Newbies Alike
Explaining Digg to Clients and Newbies Alike In the world of social media, Digg is a behemoth. A hot Digg submission is capable of generating tremendous volumes of traffic and links – so much so that many sites experience the “Digg Effect” for the first time and crash under the strain of the traffic. That said, Digg can be a very important component of many social media and search campaigns. But, how can you possibly explain the Digg concept and its implications to clients who still haven’t really acknowledged the Internet as anything more than a passing fad? Trolltech Expands WebKit Footprint

Autor admin | 07.05.2008 | Category SEO

In the minds of many, WebKit is just an Apple technology used to power its Safari browser on Macs, iPhones and Windows.

But the reality is that the open source Web browser engine is far more, with a broader range of uses and a number of vendors besides Apple participating in its development.

WebKit is now poised to grow even further in importance thanks to the efforts of Trolltech, which makes Qt 4.4, a C++ application development framework that enables developers to write applications once for deployment on multiple platforms, including Windows, Linux/UNIX and Mac OS X.

Qt also is well-known as the application development framework behind the open source KDE Linux desktop.

House Takes up Net Neutrality Debate

Autor admin | 07.05.2008 | Category SEO

A House subcommittee held a hearing today to consider legislation that would codify broad principles intended to prevent Internet service providers (ISPs) from slowing or degrading the delivery of certain content over their networks.

Once again, all sides of the Net Neutrality debate lined up to stake their positions while the House debated how to treat the latest bill addressing how traffic on ISPs should be treated.

At this morning’s hearing before the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s subcommittee on telecommunications and the Internet, ISPs warned that Net neutrality legislation could slow broadband deployment by imposing heavy regulations that would create uncertainties in the business model.
