Autor admin | 31.05.2008 | Category SEO

The business process management (BPM) tools market is on a solid growth path. BPM, which is designed to optimize and streamline business operations, will grow from the roughly $1 billion in 2007 to $2.6 billion by 2011 according to Gartner.

One of the vendors hoping to take advantage of this growth is Metastorm, which this week released an upgrade to its Metastorm BPM product and plans to unveil a unified enterprise platform later this year.

The upgrade includes a stronger partnership with Microsoft; process binding with Microsoft productivity applications such as Microsoft Office and Windows SharePoint; integration of Metastorm ProVision process analysis simulation elements within Metastorm BPM; inclusion of business activity monitoring (BAM) support and alerts in Windows Vista; and extended support for document management.

Can Microsoft Do the ISO Limbo?

Autor admin | 31.05.2008 | Category SEO

As the clock ticked off this week, two more nations filed last minute appeals to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), asking that the world standards body rescind its recent adoption of Microsoft’s Office Open XML (OOXML).

That brings the total number of ISO members who are requesting OOXML’s rejection to three – and, until the appeals are examined and dealt with, it leaves OOXML’s status in limbo.

What it means is that OOXML’s induction into the pantheon of ISO standards is put on hold until the appeals wind their way through the ISO process. How long that will be is as yet unknown.

Microsoft Contributes to Scanner Effort

Autor admin | 31.05.2008 | Category SEO

In an effort to make it easier for scanners and all-in-one device makers to interface with Windows Vista, Microsoft announced Thursday it is contributing a set of Web services protocols it has developed for scanners to a standards group working on that issue.

Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) is contributing the protocols to the Printer Working Group (PWG), a program of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Industry Standards and Technology Organization, according to the organization’s Web site.

“The purpose of the [protocols] specification was to enable network scanning in home and small business environments,” Mike Fenelon, a technical lead in Microsoft’s documents experience group and author of the spec, told InternetNews.com.

Data Demand Drives Higher Mobile Phone Costs

Autor admin | 31.05.2008 | Category SEO

Mobile phone users are not only getting more social and looking for fun, they’re also increasingly willing to spend more for the privilege when they buy a phone.

According to a new study from J.D. Power and Associates, they’re willing to spend an average of $9 more on new phones — an increase the research firm termed “substantial.”

The average wireless handset price tag now hovers about $101, the highest amount cited since the firm began studying wireless device costs five years ago.

The research firm said that cost difference spiked during the past six months and represents the largest jump in two years.

Ruby on Rails Performance Options Grow

Autor admin | 30.05.2008 | Category SEO

Just because a developer can produce code quickly doesn’t necessarily make the code run fast.

That’s where new tools from vendors FiveRuns and New Relic come in. They ensure rapid delivery through its Ruby on Rails (RoR) performance profiling tools.

Ruby on Rails (RoR) is a popular open source development framework because it enables rapid application development.

The new performance management and profiling tools are important additions to the RoR development community as RoR moves from being a hobbyist development language to a bona fide enterprise development framework.

Google Launches Google Merchant Search
Google Launches Google Merchant Search Google Merchant Search has quietly launched as a test program to compare products and services in shopping comparison engine fashion. Google Merchant Search is a test feature, apparently in the UK, and is not available for every search. You may see it when conducting some searches but not others. Lead gen providers like Bankrate.com in financial services, one of Google’s largest customer segments, can’t be too pleased with Google offering a free service that competes indirectly with theirs. Our friends over at SearchEngineLand had the story first with “Outing Google Merchant Search” as if GMS were in the closet. Here’s the view from Google and their FAQ for Google Merchant Search. Testing Applies to Widgets and Accessories, Not Just Landing Pages

The Google Website Optimizer blog is serving up a helpful tip on testing widgets and other site accessories.

They gave an example of a popcorn company that tested their current trust seal against an upgraded one they were being pitched. The test also included a factor where there was no seal shown to visitors.

Having no seal at all performed poorly. But there was little difference between the old trust seal and the upgraded one. The popcorn company was able to put their money to better use than having a new seal on their site.

Do you test your widgets? Have any tips?

Winning the Local Search Battle

Need Sitelinks? Show Google Your Site Is Useful

Autor admin | 30.05.2008 | Category SEO

Last time, we discussed Google sitelinks and suggested some improvements to the system.

Today, we’ll explore some of the things Web site owners can do to affect changes to their selection of sitelinks, rather than stewing over how random sites are given sitelinks for terms like “auto insurance” and “fitness club.” (I received an e-mail suggesting some sort of “deal” Google has with sites that receive sitelinks for non-branded terms like those I mentioned. There is, of course, no way to confirm this, unless Google comes out and says it.)

Have No Sitelinks?

Not all sites are blessed with Google sitelinks.
