Do We Need Reusable Paper?

PALO ALTO, Calif. - How many times have you printed out a document on a sheet of paper, used it once, and tossed it out? According to Xerox’s Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), 44.5 percent of the time that’s exactly the fate of a printed page. Print out something like directions or a memo for quick reference and then it’s off to the recycling bin.
Paper is often used for all of a few minutes and tossed out. That’s a waste of more than just the paper, but the power used to create it. It takes 204,000 joules of power to create a new sheet of paper and 114,000 joules to recycle one.
So what if you didn’t have to make new pages but could reuse the old ones?
Nortel Pitches Networks Revamp For Virtualization
Autor admin | 29.04.2008 | Category SEO
We generally think of virtualization in terms of applications and servers. Yet the network is a key part of the mix, though it’s often overlooked in what can be a critical oversight.
After all, those virtualized servers and applications still need to connect to users over networking hardware that may not necessarily be optimized for virtualization.
That’s where Nortel Networks is aiming to bridge the gap, with its new Virtual Services Switch (VSS) 5000 — optimized for delivering network virtualization services.
The new hardware platform comes amid further indications of positive prospects ahead for the technology, with virtualization vendor VMware most recently reporting record revenues.

While the White House isn’t commenting on whether BlackBerries taken from a diplomatic meeting in New Orleans were compromised, security experts say the incident is a compelling reason to reassess security policies for mobile devices. According to various published reports, at least two BlackBerry units belonging to U.S. delegation officials went missing after a summit meeting in New Orleans last week. Surveillance tapes revealed Rafael Quintero Curiel, a press aide to Mexico President Felipe Calderon, picked up the devices. Secret Service personnel retrieved the devices from Curiel shortly after. In a press briefing last Friday, White House Press Secretary Dana Marie Perino said she didn’t know whether the phones contained sensitive information or if they had been compromised. When Is a Downgrade a Good Thing?

Microsoft has spoken. Windows XP’s days are numbered, and the clock runs out on June 30, 2008… or does it?
It turns out that creative thinkers at Dell and Lenovo – and reportedly HP – have figured out a way that some customers can continue to get new PCs configured with XP Professional through January 31, 2009.
The key is in what’s called “downgrade rights.” That is, you can purchase a new PC with Windows Vista Business or Vista Ultimate, and have it downgraded to XP Professional. This option is not available if you buy a PC with Vista Home Basic or Home Premium, however.
Both Dell (NASDAQ: DELL) and Lenovo clearly describe the downgrade options on their Web sites.

Google: Regulators Would Approve Deal With Yahoo
Autor admin | 29.04.2008 | Category SEO

Source: Reuters Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) believes regulators would not bar a potential business deal with Yahoo (NASDAQ: YHOO) because it would be “nonexclusive” and falls short of an outright merger, a person familiar with Google’s thinking said on Friday. Yahoo is exploring alternatives to Microsoft’s (NASDAQ: MSFT) $42.7 billion takeover offer, which the Web pioneer has rejected for being too low. The U.S. Justice Department is questioning the companies about potential competitive issues raised by a partnership, sources said this week, as Yahoo completed a two-week test of Google’s system for selling ads alongside Yahoo’s Web search results.
