Reverse Engineering Google: Is Imitation Really the Best Form of Innovation?
Autor admin | 22.04.2008 | Category SEO
Unethical search engine optimization (SEO) and paid search (PPC) sales reps use the term “reverse engineering” to sell snake oil to naïve companies.
Now, two Harvard Business Review authors claim they’ve reverse-engineered the secret to Google’s innovation process. This month, two distinguished college professors published “Reverse Engineering Google’s Innovation Machine.” Be forewarned: the article is a gourmet recipe for unmitigated disaster.
What’s the best way to innovate? Imitate!
Who came up with such a Pythonesque idea? Bala Iyer, an associate professor of technology operations and information management, and Thomas H.

TI’s Less Than Terrific
Autor admin | 22.04.2008 | Category SEO
Investors hoping that Intel’s blow-out results last week were good news for rest of the chip sector received a bit of a letdown late Monday when Texas Instruments reported quarterly results that were generally below analysts’ expectations.
TI reported earnings of 43 cents a share after factoring out tax benefits, and sales rose 3% from the year-ago quarter to $3.27 billion. The results were in the middle of the lowered outlook the company gave last month, and the sales number was a hair below estimates.
Digital signal processor sales declined 3% on lower cell phone sales, which were foreshadowed by Nokia’s disappointing results last week.
Microsoft: Mesh Lives!

After weeks of little more than broad hints and rampant speculation, Microsoft is preparing to show off its new Mesh initiative — signaling that the company is poised to jump in and get its feet wet with a potentially far-ranging data synchronization technology.
Company officials plan to make an announcement regarding the strategy this week, during the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco.
The concept is that all of a user’s devices — from mobile phones to game consoles –- should link with each other and all of the user’s social activities, producing a seamless framework for both personal and business access anywhere, anytime.

For the last two years Vyatta has been offering a Linux based alternative to proprietary routing technology. Today Vyatta is upping the ante with a new release, Vyatta Community Edition 4 (VC4). The new version scales up the Linux network operating system to 10GbE and adds new functionally that complements its scale upstream.
Vyatta isn’t being shy about who the competition is, and is taking direct aim at networking industry Goliath Cisco for a piece of the multi-billion dollar routing market.
“We’re breaking out from being router software to being an open network operation system where routing is just one of the features,” Kelly Herrell, CEO of Vyatta, told InternetNews.com.

Site Redesign: 4 Vital SEO Tips for Web Designers
Autor admin | 22.04.2008 | Category SEO
Many times when companies consider a site redesign, they’ll say, “We need a fresher look,” or “We need to delete a lot of these garbage pages in our Web site.” Their rationale may be that they need better — marketing fluff — content, or a more interactive Web site with Flash demos or things of that nature.
Rarely do you hear companies say, “We need to redesign our Web site because it wasn’t built for SEO,” or, “We need to be careful when we launch this Web site to make sure our search engine rankings don’t drop due to changes.”
If you find yourself in this position (undergoing a redesign) stop everything until you’ve read this column.

SEO for Publishers: News and Sports are Slow to Adopt SEO
Autor admin | 22.04.2008 | Category SEO
We’ve discussed the slow acceptance of search engine optimization (SEO) by e-commerce sites that depend on feeds to distribute information about their products online. Today we’ll chat about the slow adoption of SEO by news organizations. Traditional news agencies crave eyeballs more than any other space, so I was even more surprised to see the overall slow acceptance of SEO.
When you look at these sites in general, you begin to wonder how much attention is really spent on the technical implementation of these sites. Even so, 90 percent of the time technology isn’t the greatest problem. The editorial practices related to naming content, as well as the content itself, remain the biggest challenge for news and sports sites.

RIM Tailors BlackBerry Service For SMBs
Autor admin | 22.04.2008 | Category SEO
AT&T (NYSE: T) and Research in Motion (NASDAQ: RIMM) are making a concerted effort to woo small businesses to the BlackBerry, hoping to entice them with a cheaper and easier-to-deploy version of the software already in wide use in large enterprises.
The BlackBerry Professional Software, aimed at small and midsized companies with up to 30 users, offers the full suite of features found on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software — such as mobile e-mail, calendar, contacts, business data and Internet access to end-to-end security encryption.
Unlike the enterprise version, however, the new offering doesn’t require a dedicated RIM server.
