Yahoo Acquires More Web Analytics
Autor admin | 09.04.2008 | Category SEO
Yahoo today announced that it is purchasing Tensa Kft., a Hungarian analytics-software company more commonly known as IndexTools.
IndexTools provides companies with tools to track the effectiveness of their campaigns and automate the management of auction bidding.
Through the acquisition, Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO) aims to shore up its position in what marketers see as the main nerve of the online advertising economy — the understanding that better data leads to more effective ad campaigns.
“What is the Holy Grail for online marketers? Well, it starts with knowing in real time whether your campaign is working or not,” Bassell Ojjeh, Yahoo’s senior vice president and head of strategic data solutions, wrote in a company blog post.

Wait Over For AMD’s Quad-Core Opterons
Autor admin | 09.04.2008 | Category SEO
It’s been delayed many times, but AMD’s Barcelona processors, formally known as the Quad-Core Opteron, are finally shipping.
The processors were due more than a year ago but were repeatedly postponed. Then came the launch event in August 2007, with chips in the 1.8GHz to 2.0GHz range and the promise of a 2.5GHz model by December.
Next came the errata bug, which cropped up only in certain circumstances, but it was enough to force the company to halt production. The bug is fixed, and now, more than a year late, AMD has quad-core processors available in volume.
This announcement comes as eight system vendors, including Sun and HP, are offering Quad-Core Opteron servers.

For Marriott, Green IT is Reality, Not Hype

ORLANDO, FLA. — As one Marriott International (NYSE: MAR) technology leader told a crowded ballroom today at Storage Networking World, going “green” isn’t about environmentalism; it’s about saving “green” — money that is.
While the brand name–lodging conglomerate, which features 550,000 rooms across 3,000 properties in 67 countries, has done its fair share to help save the rain forests — helping to preserve 1.4 million acres in Brazil in the last 20 years — and reduce energy costs across all operations, its IT teams are doing their fair share as well these days.
“There’s a statistic that about 29 percent of technology professionals believe that ‘green IT’ is just hype,” Ed Goldman, vice president, technology strategy, for Marriott, told his standing-room-only audience.

EMC, Iomega to Tie The Knot
Autor admin | 09.04.2008 | Category SEO
A little wooing goes a long way. After weeks of being rebuffed, EMC announced today it would acquire smaller storage player maker Iomega for $213 million with the tender offer expected to complete by the end of June.
To accept EMC’s (NYSE: EMC) $213 million, $3.85 per-share offer, Iomega (NYSE: IOM) terminated a separate purchase agreement with ExcelStor, costing the company a $7.5 million fee.
Acquiring Iomega gives EMC a huge customer footprint and a deep channel into the consumer, small-office and midsize storage markets, better positioning it against other strong SMB market competitors such as Dell (NASDAQ: DELL) and Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ).
Malware Problem Shows no Sign of Slowing

Symantec today has issued its 13th Internet Security Threat Report, an overarching state of security on the Internet. The report shows the evolution of how both the threat and the criminals behind it have matured almost as much as the software industry itself.
Over 40 pages, Symantec (NASDAQ: SYMC) covers four major points: trusted Web sites have become the focus of a large portion of malicious activity; attackers are seeking information, not just to damage your PC; attackers are selling information to a mature underground economy; and attackers are adapting rapidly to new security measures.
Criminals have the advantage of operating in the shadows while software vendors have to operate in the open.

Recently, Microsoft gave Yahoo an ultimatum to accept its offer or face a hostile takeover. Yahoo has been trying to demonstrate its value by releasing 3 year revenue projections and announcing details about its forthcoming AMP advertising platform.
