Adobe’s Integration Plan Merges Business Units
Autor admin | 08.04.2008 | Category SEO
Adobe Systems Inc said on Monday it was putting under one roof businesses selling software for computers, phones and consumer electronics to make them run on a single technology platform.
The announcement is part of a series of management restructuring moves Adobe (NASDAQ: ADBE) is making following the planned retirement of two long-time executives, effective May 1. A spokeswoman said no employee job losses would result.
The move represents the further consolidation of its 2005 Macromedia acquisition with the broader Adobe organization while also recognizing the growing convergence of once-distinct software and the need for it to run across a range of devices.

Yahoo Calls Microsoft Out on Bid Ultimatum
Autor admin | 08.04.2008 | Category SEO
Responding to an ultimatum Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) CEO Steve Ballmer sent over the weekend calling on Yahoo (NASDAQ: YHOO) to come to the bargaining table, Yahoo responded today with its own letter, reiterating its position that the initial offer undervalues the company’s worth in light of its global brand value and prospects for future growth.
“Our board’s view of your proposal has not changed,” CEO Jerry Yang and Chairman Roy Bostock wrote in the letter. “We continue to believe that your proposal is not in the best interests of Yahoo and our shareholders.”
In his letter, Ballmer said that if Yahoo continued to stonewall, he would initiate a proxy contest to replace the board of directors, and warned that such a contingency could reduce the ultimate settling price.

How to Tell if Your Domain is Banned in a Search Engine
Autor admin | 08.04.2008 | Category SEO
Do you have a domain that appears to have ranking problems in Google, Yahoo or MSN? Sometimes this may leave you wondering, “Has my Web site somehow been banned in the search engines?”; “Did my search engine optimization firm do something bad?”.
If your Web site is brand new, you can skip this and just read some earlier columns on optimizing a new Web site.
If your Web site once ranked and all of a sudden seems to be taking a hit, perhaps you should check to see if you’ve suffered a ban in any one of the search engines or encountered a penalty.
First, let’s take a look at what a ban might look like.
Oftentimes it is difficult to tell whether a domain name is banned in the search engine or simply penalized by the search engine.

EC Investigates OOXML ‘Process’
Autor admin | 08.04.2008 | Category SEO
Microsoft may have won the gold for its Office Open XML (OOXML) file formats last week, but it appears that the company’s gung ho push for adoption as a standard has gotten it embroiled in yet another investigation by the European Commission (EC).
Besides a probe begun in January regarding whether OOXML is sufficiently interoperable with competitors’ products, an EC spokesperson has now acknowledged that the commission is also looking into Microsoft’s (NASDAQ: MSFT) tactics in the contentious standard setting process surrounding OOXML.

Judge in ‘Vista Capable’ Suit Says ‘Stay’
Autor admin | 08.04.2008 | Category SEO
Microsoft has taken a beating in the courts lately. The European Commission continues to investigate what it views as anti-competitive behaviors in the European Union. The federal judge overseeing the company’s antitrust settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice in January extended Microsoft’s consent decree for another two years.
Finally, in late February, the judge in Seattle handling a lawsuit claiming that Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) purposely mislead consumers with its Windows “Vista Capable” sticker campaign during the 2006 holiday buying season, certified the case as a “class action.”
That was complicated by the embarrassing disclosure of a raft of executive e-mails in the case when Judge Marsha Pechman unsealed them in February.

European Group Wants to Cut Search Engine Data Storage
Almost a month after the EU approved Google’s DoubleClick acquisition, officials from 27 EU nations have unanimously adopted a proposal that could force search engines to reduce the amount of time they store personal information. The Article 29 Data Protection Working Party met for 2 days in Brussels last week and agreed that six months should be the maximum amount of time data is stored.
Last year Google cut its data storage to 18 months to comply with EU rules.

The Offline Benefits of Online Advertising
The offline effects of online advertising has been a curious issue in the search engine marketing industry over the years. But according to published reports, new study conducted by comScore is shedding more light on the issue.
The study was conducted on a retailer that does $15 billion in annual revenues. Most of the revenues come from brick and mortar stores. During a three month period, sales increased 50% offline, which coincided with a display and search advertising campaign. Online sales also saw a boost of 40%.
This isn’t the first comScore study looking at offline ROI of online ads.

Keep the Lines of SEO Communication Open
Autor admin | 08.04.2008 | Category SEO
For years I’ve touted the importance of training your employees about SEO. We know why it’s important to tell everyone what tactics are right and wrong, but we don’t know how long they’ll actually remember the information.
I find that larger organizations retain less SEO information over time. Sometimes this is due to selective memory on the part of developers, who are inundated with requests from across the organization, and choose to focus on the latest requirements. Other times, it’s caused by a reorganization, or turnover in various departments.
In large organizations that spend more time finding the right person for the right job, reorganization can cause so much havoc and chaos that there’s little time to think about anything other than their new objectives.

Technical Analysis: The Dow Stays Stuck
Autor admin | 08.04.2008 | Category SEO
![]()
No change from a week ago: The Dow (first chart below) remains stuck just below its February high. If it can close at 12,743.2 or higher, it would confirm the Transports’ (second chart) close above its February high and generate a Dow Theory bull signal, reversing November’s bear signal and suggesting that the worst of the credit crunch is behind us. On the plus side, by consolidating at the top of last week’s big up day, the index could be setting up for more upside. Levels to watch are 12,767 to the upside and 12,527 to the downside, the upper and lower boundaries of that consolidation. The S&P (third chart) faces resistance between here and 1406, and support is 1358 and 1340. (Read the full post about ‘Technical Analysis: The Dow Stays Stuck’…)
