Google on Global Search Standards: Thanks, But No Thanks
Google has politely turned down a cordial invitation to support technology that would control how the search engine lists articles and photos. The technology is called ACAP, which stands for “automated content access protocol,” and has been developed by a consortium of media trade organizations, including the European Publishers Council, the International Publishers Association and the World Association of Newspapers.
Google’s European partnership lead Rob Jonas reminded attendees at the MediaGuardian.co.uk Changing Media Summit that there already is technology in place for publishers to opt out of Google should they not be pleased with the search company’s indexing methods.
Placing a robots.txt file onto sites prevents Google’s spiders from indexing them and displaying sites in search results.
But publishers often find themselves in a Catch-22 situation when it comes to being indexed by Google.

China Tops in Web Users?
Autor admin | 13.03.2008 | Category SEO
China has surpassed the United States to become the world’s largest Internet market by number of users, a research firm said on Thursday.
The estimate by Beijing-based BDA was based on data from the China Internet Network Information Center, which indicated that the country’s Internet users totaled 210 million at the end of 2007.
Nielsen/NetRatings put the United States Web population at 216 million for the same period, BDA said.
“Based on these sources and the assumption that these markets have continued to grow in 2008 to date at the same rates that they grew in 2007, we can conclude that China has by now comfortably surpassed the United States as the world’s largest Internet population,” analyst Bin Liu said in a statement.

First SEO Link Building Rule: Never Buy Paid Links…Until Now
Autor admin | 13.03.2008 | Category SEO
I have a circumstance that warrants link buying. It’s hard for even me to believe. I watched my marketing team implement a link buy campaign for a client and it’s going great.
Have I sold out?
Have I not listened to my own advice about buying links in this, or this, or even this article?
Of course not. So what’s this special exception? It’s link buying to seed a viral, social media campaign with a specific end date. In other words, this has absolutely nothing to do with search rankings.
If you need to generate buzz — links for the sake of traffic and a network of viral roots to keep an interesting promotion alive and standing tall — then go ahead.

SEO Training: Live and In-Person
Autor admin | 13.03.2008 | Category SEO
Many of you have taken courses where you’re one out of 100 or more people in attendance. Skip class and no one would hardly know you were gone.
Contrast that to a class where you’re only one of 10 people. Would you say your chances of learning more increased?
Of course. A smaller group lends itself to a more customized learning experience. You’re open to ask more questions and get answers specific to you. That’s the major benefit of a classroom style of learning.
As I’ve mentioned previously, you’re not free to work at your own pace in a classroom. Also, you may need to travel. In addition to classroom fees, you’ll also need to factor in travel-related expenses.

The Privacy Debate Beyond Google/DoubleClick
Autor admin | 13.03.2008 | Category SEO
With Google’s (NASDAQ: GOOG) acquisition of DoubleClick having won the final regulatory approval it needed, the debate over consumer privacy and behavioral targeting in online advertising is far from over.
Despite the vigorous lobbying efforts by privacy watchdogs like the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) and the Center for Digital Democracy (CDD) to make consumer data protection a part of the merger review, both U.S. and European regulators determined that their investigation would only consider how the combination would likely affect competition.
