Should search marketers include audio (podcast) optimization in their tactical toolkits
Amanda Watlington answers my questions about optimizing podcasts
Why should we be thinking about using audio and podcasts?
Universal search and the inclusion of audio and video content into the main search pages is an opportunity for marketers to expand and use a powerful highly personal medium. That being said; however, marketers should not just include audio just to have audio, but should look for appropriate opportunities to include audio into their online marketing.
What kind of content could a company produce in audio?
The beauty of audio is that it is highly adaptable.

Stocks tried to extend their rally Wednesday a day after the stock market’s biggest one-day gain in five years, but fell victim to profit-taking in afternoon trading.
The major indexes were up 1% around midday, but $110 a barrel oil and a new low in the U.S. dollar renewed inflation concerns and sparked selling, sending stocks down modestly by the close.
KLA-Tencor led the decline in the tech sector, falling 10% on an Oppenheimer downgrade on loss of an Intel contract to rival Applied Materials.
Yahoo shed 2% on fears that Microsoft could lower its offer for the company if its quarterly results disappoint Wall Street next month.
Most tech leaders ended the day flat to lower, but IBM and Oracle posted modest gains.
Sirius and XM Satellite gained on hopes that their proposed merger may be nearing FTC approval.
TiVo climbed 3% on a YouTube deal with Google.
China Digital TV soared 28% on a deal with Intel.
DivX plunged on its outlook.
The Nasdaq lost 11 to 2243, the S&P fell 11 to 1308, and the Dow gave back 46 to 12,110.
Microsoft Grabs Virtualization Company Kidaro
Autor admin | 12.03.2008 | Category SEO
Microsoft said on Wednesday it agreed to acquire virtualization technology firm Kidaro for an undisclosed sum.
Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) said Kidaro’s technology would be incorporated into its desktop virtualization product, which allows companies to deliver over an Internet network a “virtual” computer desktop different from the software running on the local machine.
Desktop virtualization allows computers to run more than one operating system on a computer at one time and it also allows users to run applications that may not be compatible with the operating system on the local machine.
Kidaro’s technology allows an organization’s technology mangers to manage and deploy virtual desktops.

Yahoo! and Microsoft open new R&D Centers in Israel—even if Yahoo! still doesn’t understand Israel Yahoo! just opened a research office in Israel—it’s first—in Haifa, Israel. The office is right near Google’s first office in Israel; they opened a second office in Tel Aviv two years ago. Microsoft has had a major presence in nearby Ra’anana since 1989, and announced this week that they are opening an Israel Innovation Lab in Herzliyah Pituah, which will focus on applied research. It will be the only such Microsoft lab outside the U.S. Aside from taking advantage of the rich field of R&D and internet professionals that Israel is known for, Yahoo! Google Will Outflank Facebook-Microsoft If Yahoo Joins OpenSocial If Yahoo joins the OpenSocial alliance, Microsoft and Facebook may find themselves out in the cold. The New York Times is reporting that Yahoo intends to join Google’s OpenSocial Alliance, placing increased pressure on Facebook, the only major social network yet to join the development network. Last year, Facebook signed an ad deal with Microsoft, effectively placing the popular social networking site between a rock and a hard place when it comes to social web application standards. OpenSocial already boasts a Who’s Who list of social networks. (Read the full post about ‘Google Will Outflank Facebook-Microsoft If Yahoo Joins OpenSocial’…)
GCC 4.3 Expands Compiler Languages
Autor admin | 12.03.2008 | Category SEO
P>For more than 20 years, GCC has been at the heart of free and open source software development as the compiler of choice. This week the compiler expanded choices for developers with the release of GCC 4.3, which adds what developers refer to as substantial functionality not available in GCC 4.2.x or previous GCC versions.
GCC originally was an acronym for GNU C Compiler and has changed in recent years to stand for simply the GNU Compiler Collection as it supports more languages beyond just C.
Compilers are critical tools that compile source code into object code that can be run on a given platform and, as such, play a fundamental role in building virtually every piece of usable code on a system.

Build Your Own YouTube
Autor admin | 12.03.2008 | Category SEO
YouTube, the popular video-sharing site owned by Google (GOOG), is giving away tools that let Web developers tap the underlying database functions of YouTube, in effect allowing users to build their own YouTubes.
The Silicon Valley–based video-sharing site said on Wednesday that it is providing wholesale access to YouTube’s extensive video library, global audience, and the underlying video hosting and streaming network that powers YouTube.
The move goes significantly beyond the current access to YouTube videos in which any Web user can copy and embed selected videos onto their Web pages.

Job Cuts Likely in Google-DoubleClick Merger
In the wake of EU’s approval of Google’s DoubleClick acquisition comes the news that job cuts will likely result from the deal. Google Chairman and CEO, in a statement posted on the company’s official blog, said “As with most mergers, there may be reductions in headcount. We expect these to take place in the U.S. and possibly in other regions as well. We know that DoubleClick is built on the strength of its people. For this reason we’ll strive to minimize the impact of this process on all of our clients and employees.”
Staff reductions will be the result of an alignment process to eliminate redundancies and ensure that roles have been assigned to the right people.
