Nortel’s Slide Continues
Autor admin | 28.02.2008 | Category SEO
While a number of players in the networking space had a great year in 2007, telecom vendor Nortel was not one of them.
The company reported its fourth-quarter and 2007 results yesterday, and they weren’t pretty — with both financial and personnel losses.
Nortel reported a net loss for 2007 that totaled $957 million ($1.98 per share) — a steep decline from the year earlier, when Nortel reported net earnings of $28 million ($0.06 per share).

Shareholders Blast Yahoo Over Microsoft Bid
Autor admin | 28.02.2008 | Category SEO

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission yesterday, Yahoo said that seven shareholder groups have filed lawsuits against the company’s board of directors since Microsoft announced its unsolicited bid to take over the company. The class action lawsuits charge that Yahoo’s board has breached its fiduciary duty to the shareholders in its response to Microsoft’s offer of $31 per share. The lawsuits are a sign of growing pressure on the company to come forward with a plan to restore value to the slumping Internet giant. Yahoo Changes Minimum Bid Policy on Search Ads

Yahoo Changes Minimum Bid Policy on Search Ads
Yahoo this week changed the way it will set minimum bids on some keywords in Sponsored Search ads in the U.S., bringing it closer in line with Google’s policy. Instead of setting all minimum bids at $0.10, Yahoo will now allow the market to set a variable minimum bid. That means that in some cases, the minimum will be above $0.10, and in other cases it could be lower.
The minimum bids will be set based on the relevance of ads to a keyword, the number of bidders and their bid amounts. It will not be based on advertiser conversions.

Google is an Optimist. Newspapers are Pessimists.
Autor admin | 28.02.2008 | Category SEO
In my last column, “SEOs, Don’t Just Do Something, Sit There!,” I made some recommendations for the newspaper industry that some felt were a bit extreme. In particular, Roe Pressley from DOCUcopies.com took the time to address some of my recommendations.
Roe wrote: “I must contest the affirmation that organizations formerly known as newspapers need to be the Twitters or Facebooks of their communities. Maybe I misunderstood the point here, but it seemed you further implied that legitimate news organizations need to change to compete with decentralized, peer-to-peer (Web 2.0?) networks and communities and become an online ’social -centers.’ The problem is this: People need official news outlets to get facts.

Online SEO Training Options
Autor admin | 28.02.2008 | Category SEO
As you start looking around for a training course for SEO you need to ask yourself what style of training suits you best. If online SEO training is something that appeals to you, there are many options available.
One of the main benefits of online training is you can learn at your own pace. You also don’t have to worry about travel costs or what to wear to class. In some of the in-person, instructor-led courses, travel costs alone can be a significant expense.
On the other hand, online courses do not provide the classroom style that provides an instructor to ask questions, clarify principles, or share personal experiences.
Virtualization Battle Not a Sure Thing
Autor admin | 28.02.2008 | Category SEO
One of the most important technologies on Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s mind at Wednesday’s launch of the company’s new server products wasn’t really in attendance.
In fact, Microsoft is still 180 days from releasing its server virtualization technology — its Hyper-V hypervisor (define).
“We’re not the leader in server virtualization,” Ballmer told the audience at the company’s “Heroes Happen Here” server launch event in Los Angeles. That doesn’t mean that he isn’t deeply interested in Microsoft becoming the leader.
Microsoft staged the event to formally launch Windows Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008, and SQL Server 2008.
