Sun’s New Data Center Approach Takes Shape
Autor admin | 19.02.2008 | Category SEO
MENLO PARK, Calif. — Sun xVM Ops Center, Sun’s data center management tool, is available for purchase starting today. Although it’s a new product, Ops Center builds on systems management technology Sun has been developing for years.
Ops Center, which Sun first unveiled in November at the Oracle OpenWorld show, boasts features for mixed environments, including Linux and Solaris as well as x86 and SPARC-based systems.
For server discovery and inventory management, Ops Center can automatically scan and identify thousands of servers across the network, even those powered off. Other features include patch management tools for Red Hat, SUSE and Solaris as well as the ability to securely and remotely manage users and heterogeneous datacenter assets from a single console.

Toshiba to Quit HD DVDs, Ends Format War
Autor admin | 19.02.2008 | Category SEO
Toshiba surrendered in the high-definition home movie war on Tuesday, giving up on its HD DVD format after losing the support of key studios and retailers to the Blu-ray technology backed by Sony.
The decision by the electronics maker ends the battle with a consortium led by Sony over who would set the standard for the next generation of discs, a fight that confused shoppers and stalled a move to the new technology in the $24 billion home DVD market.
The Blu-ray win means consumers no longer have to choose between rival incompatible formats and run the risk of being stuck with a 21st-century equivalent of Betamax, Sony’s videotape format that lost out to VHS in the 1980s.

Ralph Wilson’s Introduction to Search Marketing at SES London
Condensing the essentials of search engine marketing into a one-hour session is a formidable challenge. This morning at SES London Dr. Ralph Wilson, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Web Marketing Today, took on this challenge (In the interest of full disclosure I periodically write for this publication). Ralph provided a clear concise introduction to the lingo and processes for organic and paid search. As with any introduction, there is the challenge of offering enough meat on the bone to satisfy those who are at an intermediate or beyond level without losing the beginners.

SonicWALL Firewalls Boast Increased Throughput
Autor admin | 19.02.2008 | Category SEO
Firewall vendor SonicWALL today introduced the SonicWALL Network Security Appliance Series (NSA), a trio of multifunction firewalls aimed at the mid-enterprise.
The NSA Series are multi-core platforms that work with a reassembly-free deep packet inspection engine. Together, they examine all traffic coming in for real time inspection without slowing down network traffic.
“UTM brings multiple security technologies into a single solution to inspect these packets at a detailed level,” said Jon Kuhn, director of product marketing at SonicWALL. But it’s not easy, he adds. “When you do that level of inspection you will have a dramatic impact on the performance of a network.

How To Outrank Your SEO Competitors
Autor admin | 19.02.2008 | Category SEO
Clients and readers often ask why a site that’s younger, smaller, or just plain "uglier" outranks them. There really isn’t a simple answer. More than a few times I’ve had to say, "I don’t know." But there are some things to take into consideration when a competitor is outranking you. Addressing these issues could be the catalyst for your Web site moving up into those coveted top spots.
Content Is King
No — I didn’t coin that phrase, but the number one reason for getting outranked by a competitor: better, and much more, content on their site. Don’t forget your content needs to be original, unique and relevant.
More pages will not necessarily make you rank.

American Express Axes Ellen DeGeneres: Au Natural On Amex Site
Autor admin | 19.02.2008 | Category SEO
I’m issuing a challenge to all online marketers and SEOs (define) at American Express. I didn’t attend the Yahoo Searchlight Awards, but I heard you lost this year. No offense, but after reviewing your site for Search Engine Watch, I can’t say I’m surprised.
The challenge? Well, you don’t have to fire Ellen DeGeneres as a spokesmodel if you take me up on it. At the end of this two-part column, I’ll let you know exactly what you need to do.
Nine months ago I started reviewing sites and writing short site audits. Providing real life recommendations helps flesh out SEO "in action" for our readers.
In my first Quarterly Review, I gave a company some really solid — and free — SEO advice.
