Super Bowl Advertisers Fumble on SEO
The advertisers who spent millions on TV airtime during Super Bowl 42 should have spent a little more of their budget on SEO, it seems. While many showed a marked improvement in SEO strategy over last year, there is still much room for improvement. In today’s SearchDay, “Rating the Super Bowl Advertisers’ SEO Record,” Chris Boggs examines the search engine placement of many of this year’s TV advertisers, and finds most to come up lacking. Yesterday, in “Super Bowl XLII Ads – Where’s the URL?,” Chris found that many of the ads didn’t even show the company’s URL well. Weigh in with your thoughts on this year’s ads in the SEW Forums.

Bidding Near End in FCC Spectrum Auction?
Autor admin | 06.02.2008 | Category SEO
Bidding stalled on Tuesday in the closely watched auction of a piece of wireless airwaves that the U.S. government is selling, according to data released by the Federal Communications Commission.
There were no new offers for the nationwide “C” block slice of wireless spectrum to top previous high bids totaling $4.74 billion.
Tuesday’s pause prompted speculation that bidding for the C block spectrum may have run its course, and that the most likely possible winner could be either Verizon Wireless or Internet search leader Google.
Bidders’ identities are kept secret until the entire auction ends, under FCC rules.

Yahoo Desperately Seeking Suitor

Yahoo Desperately Seeking Suitor With limited options, Yahoo board members face increased pressure to accept Microsoft’s hostile bid. Yahoo has resisted Microsoft’s advances in the past, convincing shareholders a turnaround was just around the corner. So how much money did Yahoo leave on the table by declining the earlier offer? Microsoft won’t publicly reveal the bid. Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang would be loath to share the offer from the company the Valley loves to loathe. Here’s the rumored Microsoft bid made last year: $40 plus per share. That’s the number Oppenheimer analyst Sandeep Aggarwal cited in a note to clients, suggesting a potential 26-40 percent upside for investors from the current offer of $31 per share - if Yahoo can negotiate a better deal for its shareholders or find a more suitable suitor. PostgreSQL 8.3 Gets HOT
Autor admin | 06.02.2008 | Category SEO
Speed is important in all aspects of computing, especially with databases.
The latest 8.3 release of the open source PostgreSQL database has speed and a kind of heat of its own in mind. It’s HOT, literally.
HOT is an acronym for Heap Organized Tuples (HOT),but according to PostgreSQL Core Team member Josh Berkus HOT in a word means performance. HOT is a key feature that PostgreSQL had on its to do list for 8.3 since the 8.2 release was finalized a year ago.
“It improves greatly throughput for database applications with frequently updated data, as well as improves response time consistency for most database applications,” Berkus told Internenews.com.
Teleworkers Feel Safe, Threaten Network Security

Business employees working remotely say they believe the Internet is getting safer. But they’re actually one of the reasons it’s so unsafe, according to a new study.
The study, conducted by researcher Insight Express and sponsored by Cisco, polled 2,000 remote access workers in 10 countries. Most of the respondents (56 percent) said they felt the Internet was safe in 2007, as opposed to 48 percent in 2006.
Ironically, as was the case in the earlier 2006 study, the results found a wide gap between teleworkers’ perceptions about security and the reality.
Worse, they themselves are evidently contributing to the problem, thanks to unsafe activities.

2008: Google, Yahoo and MSN Join Together
Autor admin | 06.02.2008 | Category SEO
This just in: Microsoft, Google and Yahoo have agreed to combine forces to create universally accessible platforms while providing clearly unbiased information access points for all humanity.
Well, maybe not.
It looks a little more like this: Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft do battle over search and platform restrictive productivity enhancements. Senior managers all stand to make billions while they bicker over which company is the most altruistic.
Well, maybe that’s a bit harsh.
Just when you thought the search world was slowing down, last week’s press frenzy ensured excitement for all.

Ballmer Fills In ‘Software-Plus-Services’ Plan
Autor admin | 06.02.2008 | Category SEO
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer this week detailed perhaps the most complete high-level view of the company’s emerging software-plus-services strategy that it has presented so far.
Ballmer’s summary came in a “Strategic Update” meeting Monday while he was explaining to Wall Street analysts how the company’s bid to acquire Yahoo fits into its overall long-term business plan. The annual meeting is a regular event planned long before the company’s record-setting offer for Yahoo last Friday.
Part way through his presentation, Ballmer displayed a slide that outlines how Microsoft’s products fit into its emerging software-plus-services push, including how the company intends to monetize each product category.
